hefty & unusual Grape Botryoidal Chalcedony (grape agate) Sphere (1.2 kg/2 lbs 13 oz)
What’s so wonderful and unusual about this girl is that its very difficult to make grape chalcedony into nice-looking spheres since the crystal itself is mostly botryoidal. Usually they are super wonky and lopsided, and while this certainly has an unusual form, it is really a quite round and pretty!
If you are wondering why I’ve used 2 names for this material, it is because the trade name is grape agate but this is not agate; its actually chalcedony which is a different variety of quartz.
Overall she is a soft lavender colour with areas of yellow-tan. In one small spot it looks like a few of the grapes were broken off, but at (what I think) is the best angle for display, you don’t even see them.
Weight: 1.2 kg / 2 lbs 13 oz. Measured with calipers she is 10.5 cm or a tad over 4” side to side.
The spinning wooden stand seen in the photos will be included.
