Dinobone / Gembone / Dinosaur fossil Ring set in Silver sz.9
Stunning deep red Dinobone or Gembone cabachon set into a nicely worked .925 silver band. Size 9
“Dinobone” starts with a dead dinosaur in the late Jurassic Age (around 150 million years ago).
The dinosaur is rapidly covered with various sediment layers; that sediment compresses the bones and creaties a unique environment that supports fossilization.
Permineralization is a type of fossilization that happens when minerals such as: chlorite, silica, calcite, manganese, or pyrite; over millions of years, replace all the open spaces of the organic matter and form casts of the original structure.
Highly agatized, beautifully coloured and patterned Dinobone is called Gembone, and is almost exclusively found in the Morrison Formation on the Colorado Plateau, in the Four Corners of the USA where the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado meet.
